Acorn Community Support

Acorn Community Support is a voluntary group supporting villages of the Teign Valley and Cheriton Bishop to provide care, support and comfort to those in need. We aim to provide services that improve quality of life and enable users to live at home independently with dignity and privacy.

We work in partnership with the Teign Valley and Cheriton Bishop Practice of doctors and social care professionals to relieve sickness, preserve health and complement the medical services provided.

Acorn can help in many ways, for example:-

·By providing transport to NHS appointments including to the doctor, hospital and chiropodist. Special arrangements could be made for those in a wheelchair. Appointments for transport must be made at least 4 days in advance.

·By collecting prescriptions from local surgeries

·By lending equipment e.g. wheelchairs

·By providing support for carers, the terminally ill and families.

Tuesday Lunch Club

Members travel by mini bus to local pubs for a hot lunch. Contact Liz Cameron on 01647 252044 for more details.

Wednesday Coffee Club

We meet in the dressing room at Dunsford Village Hall. Join us for a coffee between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Exchange books and enjoy occasional talks from visiting experts.All welcome.

Thursday Memory Cafe

We meet on the second and last  Thursday of each month at Strawberry Hill, Dunsford.  Please ring Margaret on 01647 252622 for more information.

Sainsburys

We operate two services to the Alphington, Exeter store from Cheriton/Crockernwell on alternate Wednesday mornings and from Christow/Dunsford on alternate Thursday mornings. A volunteer is available to help where necessary. Contact Jackie on 01647 252701 to book a seat.

Minibus

We have a 9-seater minibus. Our aim is to provide those aged 60 or over, those with disabilities and those who have difficulty using public transport with a low cost, comfortable means of transport that has special facilities to help the disabled on and off the bus. The bus is in use every Tuesday taking people to the Acorn Club at the Teign Valley Community Hall.

Excursions

Excursions are arranged to for example Dartmoor, coastal resorts, garden centres, the theatre and pub lunches.

The bus can also be hired.

Acorn Friends Association

If you would like to help Acorn provide community support you can become a member of Acorn Friends .Annual Family membership is £10 or £5 for singles.
