Website Changes – your feedback is welcome

TechCube computers have now taken over the maintenance of this website. Over the next few weeks we will be working closely with the surgery to ensure the site will provide the most relevant and useful services to the patients.

We intend to reinstate the online prescription system, as well as cancellations and general comments. We are also looking for patient feedback, as our goal is to provide an online service that not only allows new members to find out more about the practice, but also a wealth of information and services that existing members would appreciate and make use of.

If you wish to have a say on these changes, please fill out the form below, which will be sent directly to TechCube’s web development team, for inclusion in the site proposals.

Flu

Seasonal flu usually starts around Christmas time and lasts for next couple of months. Swine flu can be considered as seasonal flu and presents in the same way and is usually milder.

The symptoms are those of a persistently high temperature, nasal congestion, cough, muscle aches and generally feeling very grotty. Less common symptoms are those of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort.

The main advice is that of prevention. You will have noticed a campaign regarding hand washing, keeping yourself and tissues to yourself and not mixing in public places. This is all really good advice.

From a medical point of view, medication is usually of no benefit. Symptomatic treatment consists of remaining well hydrated, regular paracetamol and/or ibuprofen appropriate to age group, and really to take it easy. Be guided by what your body tells you it can do. Antibiotics are of no benefit at all and can even make you feel worse.

However, if you are in a high risk group of people eg: >65 years, those with a chronic disease, < 5years of age and pregnant women and present with symptoms of less than 48hour duration sometimes antiviral medication can be of benefit.

The NHS Direct flu helpline is 0845 4647. Or of course you can call the surgery 01647 24272 for advice.
